Eliminating Neck Pain
Many of us, while working at the computer or at the table, have felt discomfort, pain, or weariness in the upper part of the back and neck. The reason could be weakness and excessive pressure on the cowl muscle.
There are not too many exercises available to strengthen the cowl muscle. One of the simplest exercises is raising the shoulders upwards -- in magazines and sports literature, you could find it under the name “shragi”. Many women often think that such an exercise could lead to a build-up of muscle in the upper part of the back and neck. We want to destroy this myth because it’s not the truth. To increase muscle bulk you need to train and eat in appropriate way.
This exercise will help you to strengthen the cowl muscle, and it will make you forget about pain in the neck. Your shoulders will become squared and your posture will become straighter.
To complete the exercise you need a chair, although you could do it standing. Sit down on the edge of the chair and straighten the back. Try not to lower the head. The arms are straightened (photo 1). Smoothly raise the shoulders upwards to their highest point, and stop for a moment (photo 2). Slowly return to the starting position. Exhale while raising the shoulders and inhale while lowering them.
The exercise could be made more difficult if you hold a pair of books in your hands (photo 3). The most widespread mistakes when completing the exercise are: a round back, a lowered head, and bending the arms at the elbow joints while raising the shoulders upwards (photo 4).
